SDMC, NDMC carry out anti-encroachment drive
New Delhi: In a massive anti-encroachment drive, South and North Delhi Municipal Corporations on Tuesday removed temporary structures and demolished the permanent one in various areas in its jurisdiction.
The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) carried out anti-encroachment drive in Tis Hazari, Azad Market, Britannia Chowk ring road to Anukampa chowk, Azadpur and nearby areas, while the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) carried out a similar drive in R.K. Puram and other areas.
During the drive, the officials freed temporary encroachment in an area of 500 square metres and demolished permanent structures built illegally over an area of over 550 square metres in Azadpur and surrounding areas.
“During the drive at Britannia Chowk Ring Road to Anukampa Chowk, two truck loads containing rehries, almirahs, wooden counters, cement slabs on pavements and other items were recovered,” said a senior NDMC official.
The joint action was also taken at Azadpur roundabout and on Azadpur-Mukundpur stretch by Assistant Commissioner, Keshav Puram Zone along with maintenance and engineering department, SDM Rampura, public works department (PWD), traffic police involving the local police.
“Forty to 50 permanent structures and 10 temporary ones and four rehries and 40 folding tables and other items were seized during the drive,” a senior NDMC official added.
It also removed temporary encroachments from St Stephen to DCM Chowk and Filmistaan and Goklhe Market surrounding Tis Hazari court along with police personnel.
The SDMC in its anti-encroachment drive freed five acres of government land worth several crore from encroachers in Najafagrh zone.
An unauthorised mobile tower also made non-operation by the South Delhi civic body in Greater Kailash 1. “The SDMC has demolished in all, 19 structure in central zones and impounded as many as 40 vehicles in West Zone alone,” according to a senior official.
