Parvesh Verma: AAP, Congress have lost credibility

The Delhi government was non-cooperative with us since it came to power.

New Delhi: While the Arvind Kejriwal government had time and again blamed the Centre for its non-cooperation in policy matters and day-to-day administrative affairs, BJP’s West Delhi Lok Sabha candidate and sitting MP Parvesh Verma thinks the other way round. “The AAP government did not allow the three BJP-run corporations to function smoothly. They stopped giving them money as a result of which lakhs of safai karamcharis had to work even without salaries,” Mr Verma said.

In an exclusive interview with The Asian Age, Mr Verma, son of former chief minister Sahib Singh Verma, said that the Kejriwal government made every possible effort to ensure that the schemes launched for the poor by the BJP-led government at the Centre were not implemented in Delhi. “Had these schemes been properly implemented, lakhs of poor people would have got benefited.”

When asked what is the biggest challenge of his tenure as an MP, Mr Verma said: “Fearing that I might cash in the credit of development, Kejriwal never interacted with me and he did not even pick up my call in the last four-and-half-years. The Delhi government was non-cooperative with us since it came to power.”

While discussing his agenda for the constituency, Mr Verma said traffic, pollution, new roads and improvements in basics facilities would be on top of our agenda. “My constituency is having urban and rural areas and traffic congestion is one of the biggest problems here and new roads and flyovers will improve the situation here. Pollution is one the biggest problems and I will focus on this area in the coming days,” said Mr Verma.
