Kolkata Mayor slams Rail for project delay

We will now give them October deadline and if they fail, we will be left with no alternative but to take the legal route.

Kolkata: Mayor Sovan Chatterjee on Thursday threatened to take legal action against the railway authorities allegedly for their dilly-dally approach in the construction of a culvert in Santoshpur area in South 24 Parganas that will help in draining accumulated water at a much rapid pace from Behala and its adjoining areas when there is heavy rainfall.

“It was in 2014 when the state government had handed over Rs 4.5 crore to the Eastern Railways for building up a culvert to facilitate water draining at Moni Canal in Akra Santoshpur area that is linked with the river. They have been delaying the work for reasons best known to them. We will now give them October deadline and if they fail, we will be left with no alternative but to take the legal route,” Mr Chatterjee said after holding a premonsoon meeting to ensure there is no waterlogging during monsoon. State irrigation minister Rajib Banerjee, officials from the Public Works Department and other government agencies associated with water drainage during the monsoon attended the meeting at the Kolkata Muncipal Corporation.
