New Delhi: The Delhi police has detained three men on charges of trespassing into the Hailey Road house of former chief minister Sheila Dikshit’s daughter Latika after she had complained about some people trying to harm her. The men were caught when they were enquiring about Latika’s whereabouts from the locals. The police said that the men were detained from the house after Latika’s security guards found them moving suspiciously in the area.

As per a complaint by Latika’s associates, Shashi Kanth Sharma and Manish Chaudhary, the incident happened on Tuesday night. They had found six men standing outside the house holding a weapon-like object and enquiring about something from a passerby. When Mr Sharma and Mr Chaudhary started walking towards the Barakhamba Road, two men on a motorbike started following them.

Mr Sharma said that he was one of the witnesses to the case that Latika had registered against her husband Imran and feared that the men might have been trying to harm him. He said that the men followed him and Mr Chaudhary till Khan Market. “We got suspicious and decided to return back to Hailey Road fearing that they might harm Latika,” said Mr Sharma in his statement.

On the way, they informed the police at the Barakhamba road police station and a team rushed to the Hailey Road residence. Seeing the cops, the two bikers tried to flee but were caught by the police team. When the cops, along with Mr Sharma and Mr Chaudhary, went up to Latika’s apartment, they heard a few men calling out her name from outside her house. Hearing their footsteps the men pushed them and fled down the stairs, however, one of them was caught by the policemen.

The police said that an FIR under relevant sections has been registered against them and further investigation is underway. The men could not provide a valid reason for their presence at the house. Cops are trying to probe whether the men were employed by some one to harm the former CM’s daughter or had other purposes to visit her house.
