Delhi Police nabs biker group for 250 snatchings, loot
New Delhi: The Delhi police has nabbed a group of bikers who robbed people while performing bike stunts. The gang claimed to have committed 250 big and small snatchings and robberies in the Delhi-NCR area. They used to operate from Indirapuram in Ghaziabad to South Delhi and easily disappeared on their bikes after committing a crime.
Deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad said that they have arrested two persons and apprehended a minor in connection with a spate of robberies and snatchings in Ghaziabad, Shahdara, Krishna Nagar, Geeta Colony, Farsh Bazar, Central Delhi, and South Delhi.
So far, 14 registered cases have surfaced where the accused and the juvenile in conflict with law have been named. However, according to the police, they themselves have claimed that they have targeted many others, the number touching 250.
It is further alleged that the accused — Rahul and Mohammad Habib Khan — also performed stunts on their bikes while pulling off the snatchings. Some of their videos have also been posted on the social networking site YouTube.
They were fond of buying expensive motor bikes and one of those has been purportedly recovered from them, said Ms Prasad. She added that they spent the money from the credit cards they snatched even before the victim could get them blocked. The most recent incident was reported in Geeta Colony on January 23 when they snatched a mobile from a youth.
In another case reported in Defence Colony last year, a chef at ITC (Lodhi Estate) had told the police that while he was going for shopping in an autorickshaw along with his wife and nephew, three boys suddenly came on a black Pulsar and snatched his wife’s purse. During the incident his wife fell down on the road and was injured.
“On January 29, a police team received secret information that snatchers involved in the said FIR were supposed to come to South Ganesh Nagar, Delhi. Acting on the information, the team laid a trap and arrested one of the accused, Rahul, and apprehended one juvenile. Thereafter, another accused Mohd Habib Khan was also arrested from Joshi Colony, Delhi,” said Ms Prasad.
