Man stabbed to death by girlfriend kin
New Delhi: In a case of suspected honour killing, a 23-year-old photographer was brutally murdered in full public view in West Delhi’s Khyala area.
According to the police, the deceased, Ankit, was in a relationship with a 20-year-old girl. However, her family was against the relationship and had warned Ankit to end it.
On Thursday night, Ankit had an argument with the family of the girl after which her mother, father, brother, and maternal uncle stabbed and slit his neck.
Passersby caught the maternal uncle from the spot and thrashed him. Except the minor, all others have been arrested for murder.
“The motive behind the murder is clear as his wallet and mobile were still on him. We have registered a case under Section 30 (punishment for murder) of the IPC. We are in the process of obtaining CCTV footage from the area even as locals are being questioned,” said the police, adding that there could be other angles too to the murder such as a robbery attempt or personal enmity.
Ankit was a photographer while his girlfriend is a second year college student. Preliminary probe revealed that Ankit’s mother had reportedly ran out of her home on being alerted by people and saw her son being stabbed.
Ankit and the alleged girlfriend had started dating since the time they were neighbours a few years ago.
She continued the relationship even after her family moved away, said the police. The woman said that Ankit was going to marry her and because of this, her family took this step.
“During the investigation, we found that they caught and stabbed Ankit in the neck. The girl’s family was against the relationship as they belonged to different communities and had warned Ankit against associating with her,” a senior police officer said.
