New Delhi: After a historic mandate in the civic polls, the BJP has now shifted its focus on repeating its performance in the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections. Addressing the newly-elected party councillors and other senior workers on Tuesday, BJP president Amit Shah said that their final destination is not the civic bodies, but the Delhi government. Appealing to the party’s city unit workers to work together and start preparing for the next Delhi Assembly, Mr Shah said that this success will lay the foundation for the next elections.

Taking a jibe on the political opponents who were excepting BJP’s defeat, Mr Shah said: “Our opponents were expecting the winning run of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come to a halt in Delhi, but due to the hard work and passion of the party workers, a massive victory was secured.”

In an indirect attack on chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and others, Mr Shah said that BJP’s victory has put an end to the atmosphere of negativity and non-performance. “It has also finished the anarchy adopted (as a strategy) by some people to find fault in everything and the practice of offering excuses, despite their mandate to perform. People have rejected negativity, anarchy and the politics of excuses. This election result has started a new chapter in Indian politics,” he said.

In a strong message to the newly-elected party councillors against getting involved in unfair practices, Mr Shah said that they should work for improving the lives of Delhiites. “We should work as per the expectations of the people. Instead of improving our own life, there should be a change in the lives of the residents of the city,” he added.

Praising the booth-level workers for ensuring BJP’s victory, Mr Shah said: “Kejriwalji alleged that the BJP won because of EVM tampering. If he wants to know the real reason behind this victory, he should meet our booth workers.”

BJP national general secretary (organisation) Ram Lal asked the party workers to strengthen booth-level management by dedicating two weeks to 12 months to establish door-to-door contact with the voters with an eye on the next Assembly polls.

Speaking on the occasion earlier, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari said that the party’s performance in the civic polls was possible only due to the efforts of the workers and the strategy planned by Mr Shah.
