Ex-MLA son among 2 killed in accident
New Delhi: Two students, including the son of a former Haryana MLA, died in a road accident as their two-wheeler was hit by a vehicle near Dr Ambedkar National Memorial in Delhi, police said on Saturday.
The victims have been identified as Akshat Kamboj (24), the only son of ex-MLA Rakesh Kamboj, and Vikhyat Pandit (25). They had pursued BA LLB course and were preparing for judiciary examinations, deputy commissioner of police Jatin Narwal said. A call about the accident was received at the Civil Lines police station at around 3 am on Saturday. The policemen took the duo, who were lying on the road, to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead.
Kamboj hailed from Karnal and Pandit was from Palwal in Haryana.“Both were taking coaching classes for judiciary exam in Mukherjee Nagar,” the officer said.
Probe revealed that the deceased went to ISBT Kashmere Gate with two other friends, who were on a different vehicle. Later, when they were returning, an unidentified vehicle mowed down their vehicle. It was revealed that both the victims were not wearing helmets.
A case has been registered and efforts are being made to identify the offending vehicle and its driver. The vehicle that hit the scooter is yet to be identified, the police officer said.
