3 criminals held after encounter in Nizamuddin

In an encounter that took place in Nizamuddin area of South east Delhi on Sunday evening, three bike-borne criminals were intercepted and in the ensuing firing one criminal was shot in the leg. Police managed to overpower two of his accomplices. The injured criminal is being treated at a hospital in the city.

The accused have been identified as Faizan (22), Suhaib (21) and Salman (22) all residents of Delhi’s Bhajanpura area. According to Chinmoy Biswal, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), South-East district, in a proactive police measure to build pressure on criminals and to nab desperate criminals operating in South east and South Delhi special police teams had been tasked to erect pickets and detect desperate criminals in the area of Hazrat Nizamuddin.

On Sunday specific inputs were received regarding the criminals following which a trap was laid by the police team at Lala Lajpat Rai Marg when at around 3:50 pm three suspects were seen riding a bike. The police team at the picket signalled them to stop but seeing police, one of them got down and started running. The other two also tried to escape on their bike but both of them were chased by police team and caught at Lodhi Road flyover, said the DCP.

However, The third suspect, who was running on foot, fired from a pistol. The police team also fired in self defence and one bullet hit him on the right leg. The accused was caught and rushed to AIIMS trauma centre where he is getting treatment, said the DCP.

Faizan is involved in 13 cases of snatching, robbery and arms act cases. Salmaan is also involved in 15 cases of robbery, snatching and arms act. Whereas Suhaib is involved in one case of snatching, said the DCP.
