Delhi: Man murders father-in-law over land feud

The 54-year-old accused had recently come out of prison in a fraud case.

New Delhi: A man, who had recently come out of prison in a fraud case, allegedly smothered his father-in-law in Delhi’s Bindapur area over an alleged property dispute. Police said that the accused later surrendered on Sunday noon.

The accused has been identified as Vijendra (54) while the deceased has been identified as Inder Singh (82).

Probe reveals that Singh had sold one of his two houses in 2016. He had then asked the accused to help him register the second house in his son’s name. However, Vijendra cheated Singh and got the house registered in the name of his own son. When Singh learnt about this, he lodged a complaint against Vijendra, his daughter, and daughter-in-law.

According to the police, the murder took place on Sunday morning at around 8.30 am. To avenge Singh, Vijendra went to the former’s house in Uttam Nagar’s Vijay Vihar area in an inebriated state. The duo got into a heated argument. A police official said that the situation turned ugly when the accused blamed Singh of ruining his life. In turn Singh warned him, saying that he would make sure that Vijendra’s family died of hunger. Enraged over this, Vijendra first hit Singh with a wooden chair and later smothered him to death.

After killing Singh, the accused remained in the house for a few hours. There was no one present in the house. The incident came to light at around 3 pm when Vijendra approached the police station and confessed his crime. A police team visited the spot and moved the victim’s body to a nearby hospital.
