BJP body meets Baijal, discusses Shunglu report
New Delhi: A three-member delegation led by Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta met lieutenant-governor (L-G) Anil Baijal on Tuesday and urged him to set up a monitoring committee for the effective implementation of the Shunglu Committee report on the decisions taken by the AAP government. He urged the L-G to fast-track the implementation of the delimitation report to avoid constitutional crisis in the three municipal corporations that are scheduled to go for elections in April.
Mr Gupta requested Mr Baijal that the matters in which gross illegalities and irregularities have been committed, should be immediately referred to the CBI, so that the guilty could be speedily punished. “Those decisions taken by the Arvind Kejriwal government which violate the Constitution must be rescinded. There may be some decisions which could be implemented with some modifications. The Kejriwal government must be asked to start the process for getting them regularised,” said Mr Gupta.
The BJP delegation drew the L-G’s attention to the issue of delimitation of the municipal wards to avert a constitutional crisis in the matter of the three local bodies in Delhi.
“With only three months left for completing the entire process of delimitation of the municipal wards, holding elections in the North, East, and South Delhi Municipal Corporations, and installing new deliberative wings in these local bodies, we would like to bring to your kind notice that any further delay on the part of the Delhi government will lead to a Constitutional crisis,” said the BJP delegation which included Mr Gupta and two other party MLAs, O.P. Sharma and Jagdish Pradhan.
Keeping in view the urgency of finalising the delimitation of the municipal wards, the BJP delegation urged the L-G to overrule the Delhi government for its deliberate delay in finalising the delimitation process and decide the issue at his own level.
“The L-G patiently heard the BJP delegation and assured the members that he will look into the issues at the earliest and take appropriate action,” claimed Mr Gupta.
