Delhi government draws plan to boost pass percentage of schools

Officials to prepare list of worst schools.

New Delhi: The Delhi government has drawn a plan to boost the results of the Class 10 students studying at schools managed by it after it was revealed that less than a third of the total students have passed the pre-board exams this year.

With the worrying pass percentage of less than 10 per cent in many schools, education minister Manish Sisodia has not only directed for strict action to be taken to boost the performance of the students, but has also directed that the principals and teachers cannot escape the responsibility of the abysmally low performance of their students.

Mr Sisodia has asked the officials to prepare a list of the ten worst performing schools in the next three days. He has also asked for an action plan to be prepared to improve the performance of the students before they appear for the board exams in March. The government has made it clear that poor scores will not be tolerated and that the principals and teachers cannot shy away from their responsibilities. The minister reviewed the mid-term and pre-board results in the government schools on Wednesday.

According to the education department statistics, the pass percentage of the mid-term exam of the Class 10 students was 21.5 per cent and that the pre-board exam results was 31.5 per cent. The department had prepared a report of the assessment of the district-wise results.

Reportedly, 1.34 lakh students appeared for the pre-board exams this year, out of which only 32 per cent could clear the exams. In South district, the pass percentage was 26.2, while in the Southeast district it was 28.4. The pass percentage of the East district was 29.4; 32 in the North; and 34.5 in the Northeast district. The pass percentage in New Delhi and Central district was 35.4.
