New Delhi: Upbeat over the national rankings released by the HRD ministry on Monday featuring six of the 10 colleges in Delhi, the institutions strongly feel that the latest ratings would help them improve upon their academic and infrastructural structure.

MHRD had prepared a list of top 10 colleges in the country on the basis of a survey of “general degree” colleges under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). HRD minister Prakash Javadekar announced the names of the top colleges, which have been ranked for the first time.

While Delhi’s Miranda House has topped the list, other colleges in the top 10 slots are Shri Ram College of Commerce at number three, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharm College at  fifth, Lady Shri Ram College for Women sixth, Dyal Singh College in eighth place and Deen Dayal Upadhyay College at number nine. Other DU colleges which have made it in the top 100 list are — Keshav Mahavidyalya (15), Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (Evening) (34) and SGND Khalsa College (46).

What has, however, surprised one and all is that ARSD College has been ranked above the prestigious LSR College and Kolkata’s St. Xavier’s College. No other prominent DU colleges including St Stephen’s or Ramjas College have made it to the list.

Speaking to this newspaper, Miranda House principal Pratibha Jolly said, “I personally believe Miranda House has always been qualitatively perceived as a great college and created a niche of its own. The rankings are very satisfying... It feels good to be recognised on all the parameters.”
