Vijender Gupta welcomes L-G Baijal's move over BRT inquiry
New Delhi: Welcoming the inquiry ordered by the lieutenant governor Anil Baijal over dismantling of controversial Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta, on Wednesday, said that the inquiry will uncover the conspiracy hatched for whimsical expenditure of public exchequer.
In a note to the transport commissioner, the L-G office has sought to know whether the Delhi government followed the laid down procedures in dismantling the BRT corridor from Ambedkar Nagar to Moolchand that was constructed at the cost of approximately Rs 180 crore by the then Sheila Dikshit-led Congress government in 2008. The Arvind Kejriwal-led current Delhi government has approved Rs 11 crore for dismantling of BRT corridor.
Mr Gupta has demanded an impartial probe into the matter through the chief technical examiner under the supervision of the CVC may be ordered as there is every possibility of fabricated inquiry by the departmental officers being involved in construction at first place and then dismantling of the BRT, themselves. Mr Gupta said that the L-G inquired whether the then Delhi government had carried out a detailed survey on the volume of traffic plying the corridor before approving the project.
