Seven cars set ablaze in West Delhi parking space
New Delhi: In a case of mischief, miscreants allegedly set fire a dozen cars in the national capital on late on Wednesday night. Panic gripped the residents of West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar early on Thursday morning when they woke up to the loud sirens of fire tenders and smoke in the area.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a masked man was seen entering the colony. He then doused kerosene on the parked cars and torched them. The incident took place around 3 am. Subsequently, the police received a call. Soon, fire tenders were pressed into service.
Rajesh Sharma, one of the complainants, said that he woke up after hearing the loud sirens of the fire tenders. When he approached the porch, he saw commotion and was shocked to find the cars burnt and smoking. Mr Sharma said that initially they thought one of the cars had caught fire, following which the fire subsequently spread to the other cars. However, the CCTV footage revealed that a man had deliberately set them on fire.
Jasbeer Arora, a resident and the owner of the car which was completely burnt, said that he had parked his car around 10 pm. He had to leave for some important work early on Thursday. His car was one of the dozen casualties, said the police.
According to the residents, a major tragedy was averted as there are usually around 100 to 120 cars parked at the said area. Fortunately, on Wednesday night, around eight to ten cars were parked there, of which seven were charred.
The jurisdictional police has registered a case and is probing in this connection.
