Missing man found, cops suspect Zeher Khurani gang
New Delhi: Five days after a 29-year-old went missing between Gurugram and Delhi, he was found outside a temple in Southwest Delhi’s Uttam Nagar on Monday.
Varun Vohra, who works in a finance firm in Gurugram, was untraceable since June 27. Police was suspecting that he had been kidnapped by members of Zeher Khurani gang, which robs people after offering them food laced with sedatives.
When he could not be reached on his cell phone, his family approached the police and a kidnapping case was registered at the Uttam Nagar police station.
The Delhi police informed its counterparts in Uttar Pradesh, Faridabad, and Gurgaon about Mr Vohra’s disappearance through social media, said deputy commissioner of police (Southwest) Surender Kumar.
Despite scanning the records of unidentified dead bodies found in the last few days and the medico-legal cases that came to the hospitals in UP, Faridabad, and Gurugram, there was no trace of Mr Vohra. It was also found that transactions were carried out using his card at a few ATMs.
On Monday morning, Mr Vohra’s parents received a call from him where he said that he was standing outside the Sheetla Mata Mandir in Gurugram. His parents then brought him home and informed the police.
Mr Vohra has not been able to give a clear recollection of the events that unfolded in the past few days. He told the police that he had boarded a shared cab from Gurugram around 10 pm on June 27. When he reached near Pochanpur Colony in Dwarka, the 3-4 men sitting in the cab overpowered and threatened him. They then kidnapped him and drove around with him in different places.
Mr Vohra does not recall the places he was taken to or the ATMs from where he was made to withdraw money by the accused. He said that he has not slept properly in the last few days and does not recall where he was taken.
However, he has alleged that he had withdrawn around Rs 80,000 from various ATMs and that the accused also took away his cell phone before dumping him outside the temple.
The police is waiting for him to recover from the trauma he went through in the last few days and will be recording his statement to get some details about the accused. It will also be scanning the ATM transactions that were carried out during the period to determine the areas visited by the accused along with the victim.
