New Delhi: The Delhi University has garnered massive criticism on social media after it released zero cut-off for the P.hD admissions to the Department of Mathematics for students belonging to SC/ST category.

The university notified about the interview schedule and cut-off marks for the PhD admissions to the aforementioned department and the later has been fixed at zero for students belonging to SC/ST category. Following the announcement, people took to Twitter to express their disagreement.

Netizens pointed out that the cut-off for the unreserved category being 94 per cent. They will perhaps be denied admission due to a reserved category candidate. “Those who have scored zero will do PhD and teach you! Seriously? A Zero?” asked a Facebook user Amit Raj. “Manufacturing fools?” read another comment.

According to the schedule uploaded on the varsity website, 223 applicants have been invited for interviews between July 31 and August 4.Of these, about 32 candidates are competing for seats in the SC/ST categories. For the general category, 94 marks out of 200 (including Interview) is the minimum criteria. The head of the Maths Department said there were “no minimum marks for SC, ST students”.
