Delhi govt nod to biodiversity park along floodplains
New Delhi: The national capital is likely to get a wetland-cum-biodiversity park along the Yamuna floodplains. The project was discussed recently by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and the construction of the 40-acre park was approved in a recent board meeting chaired by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal last week.
The park will have a 25 million litre natural sewage treatment facility, a waterbody, an amphitheatre, and various theme-based parks, like butterfly park, medicinal park, herbal garden, food park, etc.
“The waterbody will retain 50 million litres of water. The natural ecosystem will have wastewater treatment facility. The STPs (sewage treatment plants) need not be massive. Since the area lies in the Yamuna floodplains zone in Timarpur, the theme parks will support and help develop the natural habitat. There would be public access also,” said a DJB official.
The proposed time of completion of the construction of the wetland-cum-biodiversity park is two years, he added.
In the board meeting, the CM also approved the setting up of a decentralised sew-age treatment plant at 93 locations, where treated water will be used for revival of the waterbodies.
