CBI officer' dupes family from Assam
New Delhi: Travelling all the way to Delhi from Guwahati for medical assistance proved costly for an elderly couple after they were allegedly duped to the tune of Rs 80 lakh when a two member gang, claiming to be CBI officials, looted them in Karol Bagh police station limits. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon near Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. The complainant, identified as Inder Chand Bajoria (75), had come to the capital along with his wife Vimla and son Sanjay. Mr Bajoria stated that he had come to the city and was undergoing treatment at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
According to the police, the incident took place on March 1 afternoon. The Bajoria family was staying in a nearby hotel. On Wednesday, the family went for lunch. After the lunch, they decided to go to drink juice and was searching for a shop when suddenly a man approached them and allegedly told Mr Bajoria that he has been called by the senior CBI officer. Worried, Mr Bajoria along with his family met the accused, who claimed to be a CBI officer. He ‘warned’ them against robbers active in the city and advised them to be careful. The complainant further said that the accused asked them not to wear gold or diamond ornaments and keep it in their purse. Abiding the instruction, the family started shifting their valuables in a purse, when the man offered a plastic to them and asked them to keep all the jewellery into the same. Following the instructions, the worried family members kept diamond and gold rings in the plastic. While they were busy checking other things, the man switched the plastic and handed over another to the family and escaped from the spot.
