Neighbour rapes three-year-old in Anand Parbat, arrested
New Delhi: A three-year-old girl was raped in Central Delhi’s Anand Parbat, allegedly by her neighbour, on Wednesday morning.
The accused has been identified as Vijay (22), a daily wage labourer. He was caught red handed by his neighbours after which the public thrashed him and handed him over to police. The girl has been admitted to a local hospital where she underwent surgery following the incident.
The girl lives with her family in a slum cluster in Anand Parbat’s Baljeet Nagar. Her father works as a rickshaw-puller, while her mother works as a domestic help in the locality. She also has an elder sister in the family.
According to a senior police official, the incident took place around 7:30 am when the parents were busy in some work and the girl went out to play with her friends. Finding her playing alone, Vijay approached the girl and allegedly lured her to his jhuggi with the promise of giving her chocolates.
“The accused managed to pick the girl from the spot and took her to his house. Her elder sister was not aware and thought that she was missing so she went back to her parents,” the official said.
After the girl remained untraceable for an hour, her parents randomly searched Vijay’s jhuggi as he used to frequently visit the family. They thought that he might have some idea about her whereabouts.
“The parents were shocked when they saw Vijay allegedly forcing himself on their daughter. The mother raised an alarm, after which Vijay tried to flee. However, the girl’s father overpowered him with the help of some neighbours,” said a local.
“We had received a call that a man, who had forced himself on a minor girl, was caught by the public. A team was dispatched to the spot and the man was apprehended,” the official said.
“A case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the Anand Parbat police station and the accused was arrested,” the officer added.
