18-yr-old attacked with sharp object in Delhi's Timarpur

The police were suspecting that a stalker had attacked her, but probe indicated that it could be a theft attempt.

New Delhi: An 18-year-old Delhi University student was attacked by an unidentified man with a sharp object in north Delhi's Timarpur on Friday, police said.

The woman was injured in the waist and required 38 stitches, they said.

Initially, the police were suspecting that a stalker had attacked her, but their probe has indicated that it could be a thief who wanted to cut off the strap of her bag.

The incident took place near a lake at Nehru Vihar when the woman, a first-year-student, was going to college, the police said.

The accused fled the spot and she was taken to a hospital by people in the area, they said.

Police suspect that the accused in an attempt to steal her bag, ended up stabbing her.

It is suspected that she was attacked with a blade, the police said

The woman told the police that she had seen the accused roaming in the locality with some other men, they said.
