Fake cop fines Bangla youth for smoking
New Delhi: A Bangladeshi national was allegedly penalised by a fraud posing as a Delhi police crime official near Poland embassy in Chanakyapuri area on Friday. The victim had gone to the embassy to collect his passport where he was penalised for smoking. The accused intimidated him and took a bribe to set him free.
The victim, Mohammad Jabedual Bahar, is a resident of Chittagong in Bangladesh and is presently living in Greater Noida. In his complaint, he said that on Friday while he was waiting in front of the Poland embassy to collect his passport, an unknown person riding a scooter approached him and penalised him for smoking in the no-smoking zone. The accused took Mr Bahar with him on his scooter and when they reached Bihar Niwas, the accused asked him to pay fine or he would take him to the police station.
Mr Bahar, who wanted to avoid going to the police station, paid him 7,000 Bangladeshi Taka and Rs 1,500 in Indian currency. However, the accused did not give any challan receipt to Mr Bahar but allowed him to go. Sensing that he was cheated, Mr Bahar returned to the Poland embassy where he made a PCR call and informed the matter to the police.
He further wrote in his complaint, “I am a student of Bangladesh. Now I want to go back to my embassy and don’t want any action to be taken in this matter.”
However, the police is not in a mood to let the accused go free and has initiated an investigation to nab the culprit.
“We have filed a complaint against the unknown person under various sections of IPC. This is a serious matter and we are examining the CCTV footage of the said areas to trace the accused. We will soon identify him and take action as per law,” said a senior police official on the condition of anonymity.
