Man freed in wife’s murder case after 5 years

New Delhi: A man, accused of murdering his wife, was acquitted by a Delhi court, saying that the prosecution has failed to bring home the guilt of the accused.

“Evidence on record is not sufficient to show that the deceased was ever harassed by the her husband, Aman Khan, and his family in connection with dowry demand,” additional sessions judge Vivek Kumar Gulia observed.

According to the prosecution, a case was registered on a complaint of Mohammed Imran Ali in which he had alleged that his sister Reshma Khatoon was killed by her husband Aman Khan in 2007. Imran alleged that they gave around Rs 4.5 lakh to the accused as dowry. But despite receiving the dowry, Reshma was subjected to harassment.

In 2011, the complainant claimed, Aman and his family demanded Rs 2.5 lakh saying they were constructing new house. “Their all demands were met. But despite all they used to beat by sister over petty issues. She was not allowed to talk to anyone. In 2012, we were informed that she had committed suicide.”
