New Delhi: An 18-day-old infant allegedly succumbed to injuries after she was attacked by a pig that caught her in its jaws and mauled her in Bhati Mines in South Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri.
According to police, the horrific incident took place on Friday afternoon at Bhati Mines in Fatehpur Beri. The deceased was the daughter of Rajpal, a labour, and Puja. The couple have two other children, both sons. The deceased infant, Pushpa, was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre where she died during treatment.
Police has registered a case under Section 289/304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Probe reveals that Puja was breast feeding her child when suddenly the pig came from nowhere and snatched away the infant clutching her under its teeth. It then ran towards the jungle. A shell-shocked Puja immediately raised an alarm, following which the family rushed to save the child. By the time they managed to free her from the animal’s clutches, it had left her critically injured. The child had sustained critical injuries on her face.
According to the family, while they were trying to free the child, the animal mauled the child by snapping her between its teeth. She could only be freed after the locals attacked the animal with wooden canes. Police was informed and a team rushed to the spot. The child was moved to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where during treatment the child succumbed to her injuries.
Chinmay Biswal, the additional commissioner of police (South), said: “We have registered a case under relevant sections and a probe has been ordered to trace the owner of the pet animal. The post-mortem was conducted on Saturday and the body was later handed over to the bereaved family. An investigation is underway in this connection.”
