Closeness to BJP minister helped Gupta get RS seat, says Ajay Maken
New Delhi: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken on Friday said that chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has indeed proved that AAP is a party with a “difference” by naming CA and “GST supporter” N.D. Gupta, who is reportedly a blue-eyed boy of Union finance minister Arun Jaitley, and Sushil Gupta, who is not a “mass-based, but a maal (money)-based” leader, to the Rajya Sabha.
Mr Maken also termed the AAP as the “B team of the BJP” and claimed that Mr Gupta was named as one of its three candidates to the Rajya Sabha because of his “closeness” to Mr Jaitley.
Addressing a press conference, he alleged that the AAP was sending Mr Gupta to the Rajya Sabha with the support of the BJP. AAP has said that Gupta handled their income-tax matters, Mr Maken alleged.
“Gupta has years of relation with a Union minister. There is match-fixing between Narendra Modi and Kejriwal. So, do not expect anything in cases filed by different Central agencies against AAP leaders,” the Congress leader charged.
“AAP is the B-team of the BJP,” he alleged.
He said Mr Gupta’s proximity to BJP was evident when a meeting of the chartered accountants, organised by his son Navin, at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in July 2016 to extend support to the GST, had Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mr Jaitley as guests.
