Focus on safety of city swimming pools: L-G to DDA
New Delhi: Delhi lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal on Wednesday directed the Delhi Development Authority to ensure all necessary safety precautions are taken at its swimming pools and no mishap takes place. Mr Baijal also directed that water quality in the swimming pools be maintained and adequate number of lifesaving personnel be deployed at the swimming facilities.
The directions were issued at a meeting chaired by Mr Baijal to review the working and status of projects of the Sports Wing of the DDA. Mr Baijal also asked the DDA to give top priority to the safety at its sports complexes too.
“Since the swimming season has started, the L-G has directed that safety precautions, including adequate number of lifesaving personnel must be deployed at all DDA swimming pools. The L-G also instructed to ensure that the depth of swimming pools is as per norms of government,” the L-G office said in a statement.
In the meeting, Mr Baijal, who is also the Chairman of DDA, was apprised that construction of new sports complexes at Dwarka, Narela and Rohini will commence by April, July and September, 2017, respectively. These projects are expected to be completed in 18 months. The DDA should also expedite development of sports infrastructure in colonies which are currently underserved, Mr Baijal told the meeting. He also advised that the DDA should ensure that maintenance and operation of DDA fitness centres is outsourced to experienced and reliable agencies and the manpower engaged must be of the highest standards.
He urged the DDA to encourage greater utilization of its sports facilities, especially by children, with an objective to nurture them into good sportspersons.
