New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party MLA Surender Commando, who was remanded to judicial custody by a Delhi court for repeated non-appearance in a case relating to defacement of public property in 2014, was later granted bail by the court. Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Ashu Garg released the AAP politician on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 20,000 and a surety of like amount, said advocate V K Shahi.

Earlier in the day, the court had ordered Mr Commando's custody when he appeared before the court.  Despite the court's directions, he was not appearing before the court for the last few occasions despite orders. The prosecution said that Mr Commando was deliberately not appearing before the court, despite directions by the court.

 The case relates to defacement of public property in the Naraina area in west Delhi allegedly by putting up posters and hoardings. Surender Singh is an AAP MLA from Delhi Cantonment constituency. The counsel of commando later moved a plea before the court seeking for bail.  The court after hearing the argument of prosecution and the defence counsel on the bail plea decided to release the MLA. 

 He won the seat, defeating the incumbent, Karan Singh Tanwar of the Bharatiya Janata Party by 355 votes. In the 2015 election, he was again declared the AAP candidate for Delhi Cantonment. He won the seat by polling 40133 votes with his nearest rival Karan Singh Tanwar of BJP polling 28,935 votes.
