New Delhi: Stealing a car from an Ola cab driver cost a thief his life after he rammed it into a stationed truck in a bid to flee the spot.

According to police, the incident took place in Dhulsiras area on Saturday midnight. The police said that the victim, identified as Chandrapal, the driver of the Ola cab bearing Haryana registration, was on his way to Delhi from Gurgaon. At about 12.20 am, when he reached Dwarka’s Sector 19 signal light, two men flagged Chandrapal asking him for a lift to Gurgaon.

In his statement to the police, Chandrapal stated that he allegedly told the two thieves that it was late and he was heading home to Durgapur. According to him, when he told the robbers that he couldn’t offer them lift to Gurgaon, the duo allegedly pulled out knives and threatened him of dire consequences. The robbers then robbed him of his Maruti Swift car and fled the spot.

However, the duo ran out of luck when the thief behind the wheels rammed the car into a stationary truck after driving it up to 4 km. While the thief driving the car died on the spot, the other managed to flee the scene, abandoning the stolen car, said the police.

The deceased accused, who was moved to DDU Hospital, was identified as Ashok Dinda, a resident of Haryana.
