New Delhi: The national capital recorded the coldest day of the season so far on Saturday. Delhi shivered at four 4.2 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal for this part of the season, even as dense fog continued to engulf the capital and disrupt flight and train operations.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 20.8 degrees Celsius, one notch above the normal. Earlier, the season’s coldest was recorded on Thursday when temperatures dropped as low as five degrees Celsius.
As per forecast, Sunday will see moderate fog and minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to hover around five and 20 degrees Celsius respectively.
The air quality in the national capital also worsened with the value of the air quality index (AQI) entering “severe” category at 410 at 4 PM. The air quality improved marginally to “very poor” around 7 PM.
The railways had to cancel 36 trains, reschedule 30 while 85 trains were running late due to fog across the northern region, according to official data. Operations at the Delhi Airport were also affected due to the weather conditions. Airlines including the SpiceJet, Indigo and Jet Airways informed that their services have been hit.
“Skies will remain clear tomorrow. There will be moderate fog in the morning. The minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to settle at 5 degree Celsius and 20 degree Celsius,” an official of the Met department said.
Operations at the Delhi Airport were also affected due to the weather conditions. Airlines including the SpiceJet, Indigo and Jet Airways informed that their services have been hit.
