Delhi Congress' Seva Dal member
New Delhi: A 43-year-old Delhi Congress Seva Dal member and local builder was shot dead by an unidentified person following an argument at G.T. Karnal Road on Tuesday morning. The accused persons, who were driving rashly, shot the victim in the chest at Bhalswa flyover.
The deceased has been identified as Vinod Mehra. A local builder in Geeta Colony, Mehra had been associated with the outfit for the past six years.
The incident took place when the deceased was returning from a wedding with his teenage nephew. A speeding van overtook his WagonR car on the flyover. When he objected, an argument ensued. In the middle of the argument, one of the men got off the van, shot him and fled from the spot.
According to the police, Mehra and his nephew had gone to attend a marriage function at one of the banquets on G.T. Karnal Road.
“On his way back, he got into an argument with the occupants of another vehicle who were driving in a rash manner and overtook his car. Both the vehicles stopped at the Bhalswa flyover when one of the men in the other car pumped bullets into Mehra’s chest,” said DCP (Northwest) Aslam Khan.
The bullet had pierced the left side of Mehra’s chest. He was taken to a hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. The police said the suspects are absconding, adding that footage from a nearby CCTV camera is being scanned. The police was informed about the incident by a passerby via a PCR call around 2.53 am. Subsequently, it reached the spot and rushed Mehra to Parmanand Hospital.
The family has, however, claimed that they took Mehra in their own vehicle to the hospital.
“They (police) did not help us and told us to go on our own. It was the young nephew who drove the victim to Paramanand Hospital,” claimed Mangat Ram, the father of the deceased.
Mr Khan said a case of murder has been registered and investigations are underway.
