New Delhi: The State Election Commission on Thursday rejected nominations of two more BJP candidatures in the upcoming municipal polls scheduled for April 23 after the returning officers found discrepancies in the nomination papers.

The nomination of BJP candidate Saroj Singh from Trilokpuri West in the EDMC and Rinki Kumari, a divyang candidate, from Lado Sarai in the SDMC has been rejected. In the absence of covering candidates in these two wards, the BJP will now contest in 266 municipal wards out of 272 with its ally Shiromani Akali Dal. On Wednesday, the poll body had rejected the nominations of four BJP candidates.

With the rejection of half-a-dozen candidates from the party, a section of state leadership has demanded intervention by the central leadership.

Meanwhile, the Delhi BJP has also lodged a complaint with lieuten-ant-governor Anil Baijal over the rejection of its candidates by the poll body.
