Delhi CM orders probe, vows swift action
New Delhi: The Delhi government has ordered a magisterial probe after 475 students were taken ill and vowed strict action will be taken against those found guilty after a gas leak from a chemical container near two South Delhi schools.
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia visited the children admitted to local hospitals. Mr Siso-dia on Saturday evening claimed that majority of the students were sent back home. “Few are still under observation in hospitals. The AIIMS team working on medical impact study,” he said on Twitter.
Over 400 girl students were discharged from the hospitals by Saturday evening, according to DCP (Southeast) Romil Baaniya. Earlier in the day, Mr Sisodia said the Union health minister informed him that he has created a team of doctors at AIIMS to ensure the relevant care in case of any emergency.
“I have asked the DM (district magistrate) to investigate. The students are being properly taken care of,” Mr Sisodia, who is also the city education minister, told reporters after meeting the students.
“There was an exam in the school which we have cancelled following the incident,” the deputy chief minister said. Lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal and Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta also visited the victims and enquired about their condition.
He said the government should set up a high-level probe into the incident. Mr Gupta claimed that the school authorities knew about the leak before the students turned up for their classes.
