Ensure safety norms in schools: DCPCR
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has directed Delhi education department, all civic bodies, and Delhi Cantonment Board to examine life and fire safety provisions in schools under their jurisdiction.
To ensure safety of the students, the commission has asked all agencies concerned to submit a status report on the issue to it by January 15.
In its order, the DCPCR said, “Further, as recommended in its previous directions, it recommends the DoE to rectify all loopholes and issue clear instructions regarding shifting of school buildings and that National Building Code, 2005 be applied to all the schools, irrespective whether some of them existed prior to 2011 or not.”
The DCPCR directed the fire services department, DoE, EDMC, SDMC, NDMC, New Delhi Municipal Council and Delhi Cantonment Board to examine life and fire safety provisions to ensure students’ safety and examine the same. They were also told to submit a status report to the commission by January 15,” the DCPCR order read.
The order stated the commission might begin the exercise of reviewing these provisions in all the schools once the report is submitted.
It also sought the compliance report from DoE in this regard.
