No acid attack convictions in Delhi in 2015: Govt
New Delhi: No conviction of persons accused in acid attacks cases took place in the national capital in 2015 even as Delhi recorded 21 such cases, a nominal increase from 20 recorded the previous year, the government informed Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
The data provided by the Centre show that here has been approximately a nine per cent increase in acid attack cases between 2014 and 2015.
Responding to a question, Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said as per the information provided by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 203 cases in 2014 and 222 in 2015 were reported under acid attack (section 326A IPC), showing an increase of 9.4 per cent during 2015 over 2014.
According to data provided by the Minister, in 2015 highest number of 55 cases were registered in Uttar Pradesh followed by West Bengal (39) and Bihar (15).
Among Union Territories, Delhi recorded highest number of 21 acid attack in the year 2015 which was nominally higher compared to 20 registered in 2014.
The National capital saw two convictions in the year 2014 while in 2015 there was none.
