New Delhi: As the Rajouri Garden Assembly seat gears for a three-way battle, which is being viewed as a litmus test for the upcoming MCD polls, the Congress made its last ditch effort to woo voters with its star campaigner Navjot Singh Sidhu.

With over 60 per cent of the population comprising Sikhs and Punjabis, winning the seat has become a revival issue for the Congress.

On Friday, the party, armed with its star campaigner Navjot Sidhu and DPCC chief Ajay Maken, conducted its roadshow in Khyala and Rajouri Garden.

In his usual stride, Mr Sidhu took potshots at the BJP and SAD candidates calling them “guru and chela”. Using his one liners, he said the bypoll will be about the party which can deliver. “Yeh jeet imandaari ki hogi, paise ki nahi. Congress ki taaqat ko koi daba nahi sakta.”

Atop a gypsy with his cavalcade, the former cricketer greeted the residents in the area. Towing the line of the Delhi Congress, Mr Sidhu interacted with the residents on the civic issues faced.

Upping its social media game, the party tried to garner popularity on twitter, with hashtag #maken-sidhu-roadshow. The party also posted various vox pops from the residents of the area, praising the party for its work during Shiela Dikshit’s tenure.

In the bylanes of Khyala ward, the party’s entourage was received by party workers and onlookers on Friday morning.

Both the Delhi and Punjab leaders added that the way the Congress was voted to power in Punjab, Delhiites would also cho-ose the party in the Rajo-uri Garden bypoll as well as the municipal corporations’ elections on April 23.

Towing the “Vikas ki Dor” tagline, the party hopes to translate Punjab’s victory for its benefit in Delhi.

Earlier, the Congress had Punjab chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh launch its campaign in Subhash Nagar.
