Government to construct 450 mohalla clinics in Delhi

The government has decided that 250 mohalla clinics will be commissioned in government schools of Delhi.

New Delhi: After receiving approval from lieutenant governor (L-G) Anil Baijal to construct new mohalla clinics, the Arvind Kejriwal government has planned to fastrack the commissioning of 450 mohalla clinics in the capital. According to senior government official, the project has now gained pace to identify land in the capital.

Officials said that through these mohalla clinics, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government aims to offer robust healthcare infrastructure to people in the vicinity of their homes.

It has also been decided that 250 mohalla clinics will also be commissioned in government schools. The target of the government is to operationalise as many as 1,000 mohalla clinics in the city. Through low-cost mohalla clinics, the ruling government planned to offer robust healthcare services to the city residents.

As of now, nearly 162 mohalla clinics are functioning. But due to a shortage of suitable land for the medical clinics, the project has been delayed. The senior official said that the government is following the suggestions given by the L-G.

“We are appointing MBBS doctors at the mohalla clinics”, the officials said, adding the central procurement agency should supply medicines to all government hospitals, mohalla clinics and dispensers among others.

“Our mohalla clinics project is in progress after the approval of L-G. Once 1,000 mohalla clinics start functioning, the people would be able to get the promised healthcare services near to their houses,” he said.

According to Delhi government official, the first target will be underdeveloped areas of the capital. The health department is likely to tie-up with the education department so that the mohalla clinics can be constructed inside the premises of Delhi government schools without any hassles.

However, the schools will not have to suffer the disturbance as these mohalla clinics will have separate entry points and working hours.
