L-G inspects Yamuna rejuvenation plan works

New Delhi: Lieutenant governor (L-G) Anil Baijal on Saturday inspected the works being undertaken for Yamuna rejuvenation plan at the Yamuna floodplains near old railway bridge.

The L-G directed the officials to ensure that the work of the first phase should be completed within the given timeline, i.e., April 2018 and stressed that the work in the next phase be taken up simultaneously for timely project execution.

“Four areas, owned by the DDA, spread over around 4,885 acres have been identified. In the first phase, 500 acres on the western bank of the river from old railway bridge to ITO barrage will be taken up to restore the riverine ecosystems by creating wetlands, greenways, walkways and afforestation,” as per a statement from the L-G’s office.

Mr Baijal was apprised of the security personnel deployed to keep a vigil on illegal encroachments, dumping of debris/malba, and that they are in close touch with the Delhi Police.

Mr Baijal also said that a walk-through be made on the proposed project. He directed that a record of status of the area before and after the works for institutional memor be maintained. Basic amenities such as waste toilets, shelters should be provided for visitors in the greenway zone, he added.
