Five abduct, gangrape woman; two held

Three more are absconding; she arrived in Delhi from West Bengal two months ago.

New Delhi: A woman hailing from West Bengal was allegedly kidnapped and later gangraped by five men in the K.N. Katju area of the capital on November 1. The woman had arrived in the city on October 13.

According to the police, two persons have been arrested in this connection, while three more are on the run. The alleged gangrape took place on November 1, when the victim who was residing with her sister in Rohini had gone to buy vegetables in the night.

Police said that the victim at about 10.30pm had gone to buy vegetables to a nearby market, when a white-coloured car came and slowed down next to her. One of the perpetrators allegedly had allegedly pulled victim inside the car and sped away.

The assailants then stopped the car at an isolated area where there was a house located in the field. Narrating her ordeal, the victim said that she was forcibly taken inside the house where four men took turns to rape her and later fled the spot abandoning her.

The incident came to light when the victim managed to get home and told her sister about the ordeal she had undergone. The duo then approached the police and registered a complaint.

Based on the victim’s statement, the K.N. Katju police verified the closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) footage and managed to zeroed-in on two suspects. While the hunt for the three others is still on.

On Monday, a seven-year-old girl was allegedly brutally gang raped by minors in Kanjhawal where the perpetrators of crime had left the victim profusely bleeding from her private parts.

The survivor had to undergo a major surgery on Monday night where the chief of Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) Swathi Jaihind spent, literally, the entire night in the hospital and later tweeted about the girl’s condition.

Four days ago, a one-and-a-half-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 33-year-old man in the presence of his two children. he was arrested by the police .

The police, which are on the alert following the Nirbhaya gangrape case in December 2012 that made national headlines, a rise in the crime graph, especially rapes, of the city is seen as a slap on the police’s face.
