BJP legislator's office burgled, laptop missing

They also removed the DVRs from the CCTV cameras at his office in a similar way as they had done at the deputy CM's office.

New Delhi: Days after the theft at deputy CM Manish Sisodia’s office in East Delhi, burglars broke into the office of BJP MLA O.P. Sharma in East Delhi and decamped with a laptop and a television set on Saturday late night.

They also removed the DVRs from the CCTV cameras at his office in a similar way as they had done at the deputy CM’s office.

Mr Sharma said that the laptops contained sensitive data about the Delhi Assembly. The possibility of the same group of criminals being involved in both the incident cannot be ruled out as the modus operandi seems to be similar.

The incident was reported to the police at around 8 am when the BJP MLA reached his house near Karkardooma. The burglars cut the wire mesh on a metal door outside the office and broke the lock using a crowbar. The miscreants then turned away the CCTV cameras focusing on the main office. They ransacked the whole premise, probably to look for computers and the letterheads. The burglars also took away the video recorder attached to the CCTV cameras.

“We have registered a case of burglary, trespassing, and criminal conspiracy and are trying to track down the miscreants,” said a police officer.

Following the incident, a team from the Anand Vihar police station reached the office. A forensic team also visited the spot to gather evidence like fingerprints. The police is looking for the video recorder as they suspect that the miscreants might have dumped it somewhere nearby.
