One more dies due to dengue in capital

NEW DELHI: One more death due to dengue has been recorded by municipal authorities in the capital even as the season for the vector-borne diseases has come to an end.

With this the total number of deaths due to dengue in the city last year has gone up to 10, out of which five were from other states, and five were residents of Delhi.

The official figure of dengue deaths in 2016 was also 10, however, at least 21 such deaths were reported from various city hospitals. Even this year, individual hospitals have recorded many more cases but the civic body is yet to acknowledge the fatalities.

Dengue had claimed its first victim in the city this year on August 1, when a 12-year-old boy died of dengue shock syndromes at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital .

According to data by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), which tabulates data for the entire city, for the week ending December 31, the number of cases have gone up to 9,271 from the previous week’s 9,232.

Out of the total, 4,726 patients were from Delhi, while 4,545 had come to the capital from other states for treatment.
