New Delhi: A man was arrested for allegedly entering into a house to commit burglary in southeast Delhi's Shaheen Bagh area on Wednesday, while two of his accomplice managed to escape after injuring one of the occupants, police said.

The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon when Arif, a resident of Harsh Vihar in northeast Delhi, allegedly entered a house in Shaheen Bagh to commit burglary.

"Arif was challenged by the occupants and caught. After he was caught, two of his associates, who were waiting outside the building tried to take him away but they failed," said a senior police officer.

Seeing themselves overpowered by the occupants, one of them opened fire on them, injuring one Jawahar-ul-Haq in the thigh, he said, adding he was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre and is undergoing treatment.

"Arif has been arrested. Two empty bullet shells have been recovered from the scene. Those absconding have been identified as Sanjeev and Jahid, both residents of Harsh Vihar. Raids are being conducted at their possible hideouts," he said.
