Car driven by minor rams into auto, 1 dead
New Delhi: In yet another incident of a minor causing motor accident, an autorickshaw driver was killed after a car crashed into his three-wheeler on Kasturba Gandhi Marg in New Delhi on Thursday morning.
The impact of the collision was such that the auto-rickshaw driver was flung several metres in the air as a result of the collision and thrown a few metres away from the site of the crash. The victim died on the spot. The minor driver sustained head injuries and was taken to a hospital. The incident took place at about 6 am, on Thursday, at a bend between KG Marg and Tolstoy Marg.
The police said the 17-year-old boy, who was accompanied by his two friends, was driving a Maruti Ciaz car. They had allegedly jumped the traffic signal when the accident took place.
The teenagers also sustained injuries. Police said the friends had gone to Connaught Place for a drive.
The car belonged to the minor driver’s uncle, who is also likely to be booked for handing over the keys and allowing the minors to drive.
The autorickshaw driver has been identified as Shiv Shankar Mahato (66), a resident of Mata Sundri Road.
“All those involved in the accident were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, where doctors declared Mahato brought dead. The two injured boys are recuperating. The car was registered in the name of the boy’s father, who is a businessman in Northeast Delhi. The uncle will also be booked under the Motor Vehicles Act. Both the vehicles have been seized,” said a police officer.
The police said the boy has been booked under various Sections of the IPC, including 304A (causing death by negligence), at the Barakhamba police station.
“As of now, the minor is in the hospital. He will be produced in the court later,” the officer said.
