New Delhi: Two men, including a rickshaw puller, were arrested for attacking a 19-year-old German natio-nal in North Delhi. The two accused — Rizwan and Raj Kishore — were arrested from Brahamp-uri area of Usmanpur near Kashmere Gate. Rizwan, a rickshaw pull-er, has a criminal background and has earlier been arrested from Pili-bhit in a case of robbery.

The German national was allegedly attacked by the two men with surgical blades and robbed of his wallet and cellphone in North Delhi’s Kotwali area on Friday night.

Following the incident, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj said that she has sought a report on the incident.

“I have asked for a report on the attack on German national in Delhi. I have asked Delhi government to provide him best medical treatment,” tweeted the minister.

The victim, Benjamin Janis Schult, had taken a cycle rickshaw from outside Chandni Chowk Metro station. On his way to the bus stand, the rickshaw puller offered a lift to another person, saying that he was a friend.

After roaming for 45-minutes, the rickshaw stopped at an isolated stretch near the Geeta Colony flyover where the two men attacked and robbed the German national.

“The duo attacked him with surgical blades. He sustained injuries on his face and elbow. They snatched away his wallet containing around Rs 9,000 and his cellphone,” said the officer.

Mr Schult, who is trained in martial arts, managed to fight them off and climbed the flyover and stopped an approaching car.

Rajesh Goswami, a Noida-based fitness instructor, who saw Benjamin bleeding profusely made a PCR call and made him speak to police. While Goswami was taking Mr Schult to the hospital, the police team spotted them and took the details. The team rushed to the spot where the incident took place, but the accused had managed to escape.

A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered.
