Auto driver mowed down by bus at Punjabi Bagh
New Delhi: A 45-year-old auto driver died after a bus mowed him down while he was fixing the tyre of his vehicle in west Delhi's Punjabi Bagh on Monday. The bus driver was arrested on-the-spot. A woman passenger, who was in the auto, also sustained injuries in the accident.
The deceased auto driver was identified as Rajesh Pandey, while the accused bus driver was identified as Prabha Shankar.
According to police, around 12.30am on Monday, a PCR call was informed about the accident. Soon, a police team reached the spot and Pandey and the injured passenger were rushed to the Maharaja Agrasen Hospital. Pandey was declared dead on arrival and the woman was discharged after treatment.
The police said that the deceased lived with his family in west Delhi’s Raghubir Nagar.
Late on Sunday night, he was travelling with a passenger when around midnight there was a puncture in one of the tyres of his auto-rickshaw. The deceased parked his auto at a traffic light in Punjabi Bagh and was changing the tyre when a bus came and rammed into the auto. Pandey was mowed down and dragged for some distance. Shankar, tried to flee, but was caught by witnesses and handed over to the police.
