It's time to make city waste-free, says Anil Baijal
New Delhi: Lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal on Saturday asserted that latest technology should be used for waste management as the time had come for a zero-waste Delhi. Mr Baijal’s remarks came after he visited the construction and demolition (C&D) waste processing facility at Shastri Park in east Delhi.
Mr Baijal ordered the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) to explore the possibility of enhancing the capacity of the Shastri Park C&D plant as well as the Ghazipur Waste to an Energy Plant, a statement said. Mr Baijal also directed EDMC officials to ensure prevention of vector-borne diseases and waterlogging during the monsoon season. The LG visited many areas like Gandhi Nagar, Geeta Colony, IP Extension and Keshav Kunj to review the sanitation situation, the statement added.
“The latest wet processing technology used in the plant has been adopted to suit the C&D waste generated in India after learning the lessons learnt while operating a similar facility at Burari in North Delhi. The wet process minimises process residues as well as dust and noise pollution.
Till date, this plant has processed 2 lakh tons of C&D Waste, thus substantially reducing the burden on the landfill/dumping sites of the city,” the statement added.
Urging people to come forward as Swachh Bharat is a common goal for all of us, he directed EDMC officials to put in their best steps this mosoon season.
