Woman disrobed: Kejriwal meets L-G, seeks action
New Delhi: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday met lieutenant governor Anil Baijal and demanded strict action against those who allegedly assaulted a woman for helping the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) and police unearth an illicit liquor racket in Narela area.
After the meeting, Mr Baijal said that he assured Mr Kejriwal of swift probe and strongest punishment for the guilty.
"In Delhi, there has been a spurt in cases of illegal liquor and drugs. The LG has assured that a crackdown will be launched against it," the CM told reporters after meeting.
Having met the victim on Thursday, the chief minister requested the LG to provide police protection to the woman, who was beaten up for raising her voice against liquor mafia in the Narela.
The LG tweeted, "Hon'ble CM @ArvindKejriwal met me regarding Narela incident. Have assured him of swift probe and strongest punishment for the guilty."
Earlier, six women were arrested in connection with the case, DCP (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said. Two were taken into custody on Thursday night and four on Friday, he added. A case has been filed under various sections of the IPC against the women involved in attacking and disrobing the victim.
On Wednesday, Delhi Commission of Women chief Swati Jaihind, the police and members of Nasha Mukti Panchayat had conducted a raid against illegal liquor being sold in the area. A consignment of illegal liquor was also found at one home.
A case under relevant sections of Delhi Excise Act was registered but an arrest was not made because it was dark.
In revenge for the raid, the victim was allegedly beaten up by women of the Sansi community that live in the slum cluster. A case under relevant sections of Delhi Excise Act was registered.
As per the police, the woman was beaten and her clothes were “torn a bit”, but she denied that she was paraded naked. Though a video surfaced on Thursday wherein the victim alleged that she was paraded naked by the attackers, the police have denied the same. However, the police have registered a case of molestation.
