New Delhi: In a good news to the new vehicle buyers in the city, the Delhi government is planning to deliver the registration certificates in just four days via courier service, making them accountable for late delivery. This would make the process of obtaining RCs hassle free, as the vehicle owners will not have to wait for months or stand in queues to get their certificates.

Delhi’s transport department is going to home deliver RCs through private courier service instead of the postal department. If the RC is not delivered within four days, then the courier company will have to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 and if the delay is over seven days, then they may have to cough up to Rs 2,000. Strict provisions have been made to ensure no misuse of RCs are being done. The courier company will have to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 if a parcel containing RC is lost.

Around 85,000 RC and duplicate RCs are printed from 13 zonal offices in Delhi in a month. Currently, these were sent through post but to ensure more efficiency and accountability, a private courier service has been hired.

According to officials, due to non-availability of staff, RCs keep lying at the MLO office or with the postal department and there is hardly any check. To strengthen the system, it will be the duty of courier service to collect all the printed RCs from the MLO office and deliver it to its rightful owner and then to submit a receiving note.
