Doctors give ‘second life’ to boy with rare Dengue
A team of doctors, led by director of paediatrics at the hospital Dr Rahul Nagpal, took on the case.
New Delhi: Doctors at the Fortis hospital in Vasant Kunj were successful in reviving a 12-year-old boy, who was admitted with no pulse and no blood pressure. On evaluation, it was discovered that the patient was suffering from dengue shock syndrome with multiple morbidities.
A team of doctors, led by director of paediatrics at the hospital Dr Rahul Nagpal, took on the case. “His vitals were deteriorating at an extremely alarming rate.
He had no pulse or blood pressure, and was severely bleeding from mouth and nose. He was immediately rushed to pediatric ICU, where he was put on ventilator.
He was administered multiple units of blood (40) and blood products like fresh frozen plasma and platelets in order to compensate for the heavy blood loss.
Doctors claimed that his survival seemed extremely difficult as he was suffering from liver failure, an acute kidney injury and an acute form of respiratory distress syndrome.
A correct balance of fluids and electrolytes were given to maintain his kidney injury and a dialysis unit was always kept on standby.
After 13 days of treatment, the patient was on path to recovery and was extubated.
