New Delhi: Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said here on Saturday that judges and doctors have one thing in common — trust of the people.

At the 52nd foundation day of the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, Justice Gogoi said that when he received the invitation to inaugurate the event, he wondered what a CJI would do at this eye centre of excellence.

“Soon, I found out the logic behind it. Law and medicine share a common goal and that is to serve the society… although it makes judges and doctors vulnerable,” he said. “Both judges and members of the medical fraternity work for the promotion of human rights,” the CJI said.

As the frontiers of medical sciences were expanding, they were bound to affect the people’s life for better, said Justice Gogoi.

Praising the Dr. R.P. Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences and its chief Prof. Atul Kumar for excellent human service, Justice Gogoi said that a large number of patients from across the country showed that it had lived up to its motto – from darkness to light.

A Padma Shri award winner, Prof Atul Kumar is the most sought after doctor not only among common patients from all over the country but also VIPs from all fields.

Prof. Randeep Guleria, director, AIIMS, said that the Dr. R.P. Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences is “a jewel in the AIIMS family… it is the most sought after eye treatment facility in India.”
