BJP MLAs protest over water crisis, Gupta marshalled out

As the House proceedings began, Opposition members showed bottles of contaminated water allegedly being supplied in various areas of Delhi.

New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta was marshalled out of the Delhi Assembly on Monday while three other BJP legislators staged a walkout to register their protest after their request for a discussion on “water crises” in the city was turned down.

As the House proceedings began, Opposition members showed bottles of contaminated water allegedly being supplied in various areas of Delhi. Mr Gupta, and two other BJP MLAs — O.P. Sharma and Jagdish Pradhan — trooped into the Well of the House demanding discussion on alleged water crisis in the city.

Mr Gupta and Mr Sharma went near the chair of Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, showing him bottles of contaminated water. Moreover, Mr Gupta started using the Speaker’s microphone to mark his protest. “This is murder of democracy. Guptaji angled my mic in his direction. It is a very serious issue,” the Speaker said.
